当研究室について
陸上の多様な植物と昆虫はいかに相互に影響しつつ進化してきたのでしょうか。
私たちは、昆虫や植物の生態と形態を緒に、陸上の生物間相互作用とその進化的変遷の理解をめざして研究に取り組んでいます。
生物の多様な生活史を明らかにするナチュラルヒストリーを核として、さまざまなテーマを扱っています。研究対象は、ハエ・ガガンボ、ガ、バッタ、カゲロウ、ダニといった節足動物、現生および化石の植物、鳥など、幅広い分類群に及んでいます。
以下をおもな軸としています。
- 陸上植物（とくにコケ類）と節足動物の相互作用およびその進化経路
- 昆虫類を中心とした生物の生理（摂餌や呼吸）や擬態にまつわる生態形態学
- 化石を用いた太古の植物ー動物相互作用の推定
About Us
How do insects and plants reciprocally affect each other’s evolution?
Welcome to our page. Our research group is dedicated to exploring the intricate biological relationships between plants and insects and the major evolutionary shifts that have shaped the present terrestrial ecosystems.
Our study revolves around the following three interconnected focal points:
- Bryophyte-animal interactions: We explore the biological interactions between bryophytes and animals. Of particular interest are the interspecific relationships involved in the reproduction and dispersal of mosses, which can potentially be mutualistic.
- Ecomorphology of insects: Our study extends to the ecological significance of curious morphological features in insects, including devices for alimentary and respiratory systems and mimicry.
- Biological interactions in the fossil records: We unearth the history of plant–arthropod interactions preserved in the fossil records, shedding light on the evolution of life on Earth.
Our approach draws upon various methodologies: extensive fieldwork, rearing, and methods of morphology, histology, molecular phylogeny, and paleobiology. Our study subjects encompass various organisms, ranging from arthropods, such as flies, moths, crickets, mayflies, and mites, to living and fossilized plants, and even avian species.
